Bass Bytes - Online Women

Karen Elkins

Hometown:
Oxford, Alabama

Date of Birth: September 23, 1960

Occupation: Associate with Victoria's Secret, Director of Central Alabama Team Trails

Hobbies: I garden and in the past answered this question with "fishing" as a hobby

Years Bass Fishing: I beat Jay Wages, Bobby Wages son, in a father/son tournament, when I was 14. He never really was fun to be around after that! I grew up on the Tennessee River and my teen years were spent at the ponds of Meadow Lake Farms and on the Coosa River.

Tours I fish: WBT Pro Angler. The Bass Splash Tournament Challenge, Team Trails and I will fish my freshman season with the PAA in 2009 as a co-angler.

Personal Website: www.karenslake.com

Sponsors: Reel Grip Pro Staff, Bo's Jigs, JJ's Magic,The Magic Foundation, Mojo Weights

Career Highlights:
  • In the past, I fished with my father, Ken Elkins. We fished Guys and Dolls, East Alabama Division: 1997-2005, Yamamoto Open Series Championship: 2003, Cartersville Couples, Alabama Division: 1999-2004. Our strongest year was 2000, when we placed 2nd for the season on the Cartersville Couples Trail. Dad and I made the cut for the Guys & Dolls Classic 3 times. Our highest finish was 8th place on the Santee Cooper. We placed 8th in the Yamamoto Open Series Classic.

  • I stepped up to the position of Pro with the WBT in 2007 after one season as a co-angler. I believe it takes at least 4 years, just like a college education, to see the results of this adventure.

Angler Trivia: I owned my first boat, a Hydra Sport at age 19. My "go to" bait is a jig or some type of plastic. I love to listen to Country music while I am fishing.

Are You A Veteran?

  • No, but I support our Troops through prayer.
